The 5 Things I would miss most in a collapsed society
1) Medicine
On a serious note, what I’d miss most would be medicine, as a family member needs daily medication for a chronic health condition, so my most pressing concern would be securing more supplies.
2) Communication
But if we didn’t have to worry about life-saving medicine, what I’d miss most is seeing family, who don’t live nearby. If all communication disappeared, not knowing whether they’re alright would be terrifying. Though on the flip side, a world without mobile phones would be refreshing, no random WhatsApp groups, no emails, no worrying about social media. That said, I’d still want a landline!
3) Supermarkets and pet shops
Obviously, I’d miss supermarkets, but I’d also miss buying dog food and treats at a pet store. My dog loves barking at squirrels, but giving them a stare-off is as far as she goes with her hunting instinct, so we’d have to share our food with her and protect her from being eaten by starving humans. That’s a stomach-churning thought!
4) Feeling safe/ needing weapons to leave the house
Other things I’d miss would be feeling safe. As people grew desperate for food and shelter, you’d probably need weapons just to leave the house, and I’m not sure I could ever actually use one. Like my dog, I’ve got plenty of bark but absolutely no bite!
5) Grooming products
Silly things I’d miss include grooming essentials like soap, hair dye, make-up, and fake tan. Imagine the apocalypse, and suddenly everyone’s forced to embrace their natural complexion against their will. Humbling.
And don’t even get me started on no hot showers or washing machines. We’d all be filthy within days. Would our noses adjust, and we’d stop noticing? Humanity’s greatest survival skill – becoming nose blind to the smell of collective doom!

We’d love to hear what you would miss most in a collapsed society.
